Children and Youth Religious Education

Spirit Play (Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st Grade)
Spirit Play is a Montessori-based curriculum which begins with an opening circle and centers around a manipulative-based story, followed by class response time. The children are given an opportunity to explore the story through the use of hands-on supplies available in the classroom. This class meets in the room 3 next to the library. Spirit Play kids will begin in worship with their parents and join their class after the Time for All Ages.

Explorers (2nd through 5th grade)
Children and volunteer teachers further engage in activities, crafts, discussion and play designed to build Unitarian Universalist identity as they learn more about themselves and their own beliefs. The class meets in Room 10 at the top of the stairs. Spirit Play kids will begin in worship with their parents and join their class after the Time for All Ages.

Coming of Age (6th through 8th grade)
This class meets in the Garden Room after the Time for All ages during the first service.

For Our Younger Friends:

Family Room: Across the hall from the kitchen is the Family Room. Parents who wish to take their infants or young children out of the service for any reason may go into the family room to continue to see and hear the service while tending to their child’s needs.

Nursery: The NUUC nursery is available for children 3 years of age and younger. The nursery is staffed by childcare workers every Sunday from 9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.

Can I stay with my child?

If you are a new visitor or new member, or if you think it would help your child feel more comfortable in their class, please bring your child to their class and then return to the service. Parents may also stay in the class, especially if it’s a new experience!
