KIVA

A Personal Way to Make a Big Difference

Northwoods has participated in the Kiva lending program throughout the years, and Shari Wood Merriam has recently volunteered to get it going again. Kiva is an organization that provides personal loans to people in 80 countries on 5 continents. 1,600,000 loans have been funded by Kiva – loans that support farmers, allow access to clean energy or water, support students in impoverished areas, and more. Kiva is unique in that the lender (you!) can search loan applications to find someone that needs something you feel passionate about. Small donations can be made for larger loans that are crowd sourced. What happens when the loan is repaid? The repayment is recycled back into Kiva to provide more loans.

If you would like to make a donation, contact Shari ([email protected]), or simply add a check with “Kiva” in the memo to the collection plate. Shari looks forward to sharing success stories!
